For long I have been observing the life around me and how things move towards failure. Many times when things happen around me and I exclaim “Hey! what is this? Is it a solution or is it beginning of a new problem? Has it really solved the problem.” And after repeating this statement at different occasions, I started feeling that there are patterns. So with the new year, I have made a decision to write about these patterns I see around.
The first pattern of social failure is about me. You can treat this as my disclaimer for this series of posts I plan to do. So this pattern says that the person who has a computer at his disposal, enough time and money to host his blog feels that he has an opinion and he can publish it online and claim that he is right. But wait… if I am writing a pattern, it should have some structure. Right? So I am putting this in a structured format. Note that because of this first pattern itself, I am not restricted to this structure and I can change it anytime because “THIS IS MY BLOG”
Name: Puneri Pundit Pattern
As great Marathi writer Pu La Deshpande said about Puneri people – You must have an opinion on anything and everything in the world. It does not matter if you work in the municipal corporation and catch stray dogs. You should have opinion on what US President should do to solve problems faced by his country.
Symptoms
A person having access to social expression platform believes that he understands the situation much better than others and his opinions are spot on and can cure the world.
The person in this pattern is so firm about his opinions that he spends great amount of time in proving others wrong.
Sightings
You can see this all across the internet world these days. Facebook, Twitter, Blog Engines such as blogspot, wordpress, typepad and what not that allow you to host a site and publish your opinion.
Examples
CrunchPad: TechCrunch is a best example of this pattern. This guy goes talking about this great device that he is going to launch and how it will change the world and one day writes that everything has failed. When the details come out, he himself writes that he tied up with a person of suspicious character and got cheated. Wow. You sleep in a with a poisonous snake and hope that it wont bite.
The Fail
This pattern is a failure when the writer believes too much in himself. What one needs to do is to listen to others and be accommodative. We should be able to take criticism positively and even though its voice is faint, we should not ignore it.
In cases like CrunchPad, we read only one side of the story and all the readers were excited about the product and gave positive feedback. This probably made them believe that nothing can go wrong but then it went. So the hype gave false hopes.
Pune city has failed on so many occasions due to this pattern. In this city there are so many opinions and so many wrong actions. People in this city fight over wearing helmets while driving, the property owners of old buildings are not able to develop the properties because the opinionated Puneri renters do not let all come to an agreement.
Next Steps
OK. So that’s it. Let me know how do you like it and keep coming back to read about more patterns. You are most welcome to contribute to the contents of the pattern, suggest variations of the pattern, add more sightings from your social networks etc.
Next time I am planning to write about the strikes in public services such as the famous Puneri Rickshaw. (Three Wheeler Commute Service in Pune City).
